Wrist Arthritis
Wrist arthritis can be a very painful and debilitating condition making it very difficult to use the hand. Treatment can involve hand therapy based treatment including splinting. Other non-surgical treatment can include non steroidal anti-inflammatory medication [e.g. ibuprofen], simple over the counter analgesics or steroid injections.
If these measures are unsuccessful surgery may be an option. Historically surgery has centred on total or partial wrist fusion. More latterly the results of wrist replacements have become increasingly good. The surgeons in East Kent have started a wrist replacement service and are building our experience with this demanding technology.
Referrals can be made through the NHS e-referral system.
